Downey, Darrell

Welcome to OMG!

What is OMG!  It is an acronymn for the Orchestra, Mariachi and Guitar classes I teach.  Pretty cool, huh?

I have two classes of orchestra, one class of mariachi and four classes of guitar and they include all grade levels.

My conference period is from 8:45am to 9:30 am every Monday thru Friday
Yes that is me, Mr. Downey, in this picture.

Music education through patience, humor, positive feedback and of course proper modeling of how to play the instruments.  That's how I like to teach in my classes.

We have performances throughout the year so visit this page often to get information on all our events.

My room is located in the Fine Arts Building just inside the north entrance across from the library.

Cello.pngMy educational background includes a Bachelors of Music Education from UTEP, 1982 and a Masters of Music Performance, 1995, also from UTEP.  I also had the privilege and honor of studying double bass in Victoria, B.C., Canada with the internationally known bassist, Gary Karr during the summers of 1979 and 1985. In high school I was accepted into the Texas All State Orchestras four years consecutively.

I have also been performing the double bass with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra for 35 years and the El Paso Opera Orchestra since 1995.

This is my 34th year teaching in EPISD.  Whew!
The countdown to retirement has begun!
